On Sunday, 22nd June, something truly magical happened in the heart of Brisbane — for the very first time, our bookish cosplay community stepped boldly into the spotlight, transforming Queen Street Mall into a celebration of creativity, courage, and unapologetic self-expression.

In a fun moment that brought fantasy to life, over 30+ incredible cosplayers joined us to strut their stuff down the Celestial Events Catwalk. From elaborate handmade costumes to clever book-inspired outfits, the designs were amazing - but what we loved most was watching each participant push through their nerves and embrace the moment, cheered on by a packed mall of onlookers!

Whether it was your first time dressing up in public or your 100th costume creation, seeing you shine was nothing short of inspiring. This wasn’t just about fashion — it was about freedom, fantasy, and finding your people.

Each cosplayer received a limited edition Celestial Events pin, and while we’re all about the fun and not just the prizes, we also offered an optional private “Readers’ Choice” vote to keep the spirit light and supportive. We never want anyone to feel less-than — at Celestial, it’s always about giving it a go, not just taking home a trophy.

That said, a huge congratulations to our three Readers’ Choice favourites, as voted by the community! With thanks to our amazing friends at Dymocks Brisbane, each winner will receive a $100 gift card — because what’s better than rewarding cosplay magic with books?

A big thank you also goes to Deborah Fisher, our guest speaker and expert in all things fashion, education, and dressing up. Deborah shared beautiful insights into why cosplay makes us feel so good and why this form of expression resonates so deeply with our community. Her Q&A was a brilliant reminder of how dressing up isn't just for fun — it's healing, empowering, and transformative.

To everyone who took part or cheered from the sidelines: thank you for making this Brisbane first such a success. This is only the beginning — and we can’t wait to see even more of your brilliance in Perth, Melbourne, and beyond.

Here’s to confidence, community, and cosplay — and to the fantasy we create together. Thank you for everyone who was part of the fun - and big thanks to Dymocks.
