I’m so excited to announce – Celestial Fantasy Events has been named a Queensland State Finalist in the 2025 Telstra Best of Business Awards, in the category of Building Communities.

This recognition comes after a rigorous process that saw more than 20,000 applicants put forward their businesses. From written submissions and financial reporting to video interviews, Zoom panels, and testimonials, the awards are designed to ensure only those truly making an impact are recognised. To be named a finalist in such a competitive field is an incredible honour – and one I proudly share with every single member of this community.

Why “Building Communities”?

The Building Communities category shines a light on businesses that are making a genuine difference in people’s lives. It honours those who create some or all of these community connections:

  • Enhance community cohesion, supporting vulnerable citizens and creating connections.

  • Provide care and education, helping people grow and thrive.

  • Celebrate diversity, embracing culture and promoting inclusivity.

  • Work in cultural preservation, safeguarding heritage and sharing it with others.

  • Offer training and access, empowering people with knowledge and opportunities.

When I read through these examples, I felt that this is exactly what Celestial Fantasy Events is about.

What This Means for Us

From the very beginning, Celestial was never just about hosting fantasy balls (as amazing as they are!). It was about creating a space where fantasy book lovers – no matter their age, gender, background, or neurodiversity – could come together and feel seen, welcome, and celebrated.

Over the past two years, we’ve:

  • Built an inclusive community where thousands of book lovers have found friends and belonging.

  • Created safe spaces at events designed with neurodivergent and introverted readers in mind.

  • Supported authors and small bookish businesses, giving them a platform to connect with engaged readers.

  • Donated to charities close to our hearts.

  • Offered opportunities for connection that go beyond books – into friendships, creativity, confidence, and joy.

To me, that’s the real heart of “building community.”

A Shared Celebration

This finalist announcement isn’t just about my business – it’s about all of you. Without your open hearts, excitement, and willingness to connect, Celestial wouldn’t be what it is today. Together we’ve created something rare and special: a community that feels like home.

The next step is the State Winner round, and maybe – if we dare to dream – even Nationals. Whatever happens, I already feel like a winner, because we’ve achieved the most important thing of all: a community where people belong.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to celebrating this milestone together – and to many more magical chapters ahead.
